Mid-Week Challenge

We are in the middle of Holy Week.  According to the timeline of Jesus last week before going to the cross He has entered Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, cleared the Temple on Monday, spent Tuesday teaching the disciples and arguing with religious leaders in the Temple, Thursday He celebrated the Passover, Friday He was arrested and crucified, Saturday He was in the tomb and Sunday the Resurrection!  But what about, today, Wednesday?   The Bible doesn't say what the Lord did on Wednesday.  I would guess that after two really hard days in Jerusalem and the thoughts of what was about to happen at the end of the week, Jesus and his disciples spent this day resting.  While we can only guess at what Jesus might have done it is interesting to consider how He might have spent this final quiet day with his dearest friends and followers.

Throughout the Bible we are given lots of examples of how God the Father and Jesus made time to rest and recharge before and after great events.  As the great event of Easter Sunday is approaching, how are you preparing for a busy day?  Cooking and cleaning in anticipation of a family gathering?  Working longer at the office to catchup for a Good Friday holiday? Checking the weather forecast one last time trying to out maneuver the rain?  However you send your time this week make sure you prepare yourself physically and spiritually for what is to come.  Resurrection Sunday is the most important event on the Christian calendar.  Don’t miss the blessing God has planned for you because you were too tired or too distracted to receive it!

Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”  Mark 6:31
