Mid-Week Challenge

Have you ever been cut off in traffic? For a lot of drivers, the quickest
way to get their blood to boil is cutting them off on the interstate.  One
car jets in front of the other, the driver lays on the horn.  The other
driver slams on his breaks in retaliation. Nothing can cause road rage
better than the sound of a horn blown in anger!  These situations rarely end
well.  Recently we have seen too many of these encounters end with someone
shooting a gun at the other.  Reading a Break Point article today I was
reminded of how nice it would be, instead of using our car horn in
displeasure, if we had a "happy honk."

How important is it to use words and gestures of affirmation with others? A
kind word or "honk" can go a long way in deescalating a hostile situation.
In Galatians 5 we are told we are not to engage in "fits of rage" and
provoking one another. Instead, we are to strive for patience, kindness,
gentleness, and self-control-in other words, good manners.

Today, instead of acting on your first instinct when provoked, why not pause
a moment and think of the happy honk.  It might not be a real thing but it
might make you chuckle enough to get your mind back in a good place!

Let your speech always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that
you will know how to respond to each person.  Colossians 4:6
