MidWeek Challenge

At 2:18 p.m. ET (that’s 1:18 for West Haven folks) today, you will receive a very special message from the President of the United States.  No, he did not hack your phone, nor will it be a message from his Twitter feed.  It's just a test of a "Presidential-level" Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA), which will be used to notify Americans in the event of national emergency.  This new program was credited under President Obama and put in place last month by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the FCC.  The test today will be the first of its kind.  And what will the message say? "Presidential Alert - THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed."

“No action is needed!” Those words gave me pause.  If you could reach out to every single cellphone in the nation with a message, ‘no action needed’ would be the last thing I would think of saying.  Every time we turn on the TV the media makes us believe the sky is falling, and perhaps it is, but not for the reasons they want us to focus on.  Our world is in desperate need of a Savior and no government early warning system can be as effective as the early warning system God calls His people to herald in their everyday lives.  As we go through this world we are to act as messengers to the coming of Jesus.  We are to share the Good News of salvation through Him and the promise of His return.

This past Sunday our church observed the Lord’s Supper.  An often-missed message around this worship is the fact that Jesus will return.  The little Greek word achris translated “until” in 1 Corinthians 11:26 tells us that His return is a guarantee we should be celebrating each time we remember His sacrifice on the cross.  Death, burial, resurrection and return cannot be separated from the celebration of our salvation.  Our calling is to share this truth with others so that they too might be saved.

Today, the President might be able to reach every single cell phone at once but your personal message to one in need of salvation is much more powerful! Share the love of Christ with someone today.  In the world we live in, urgent action is needed.  Will your life be that message in the present hour of need?

“Look, I am coming soon! Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy written in this scroll.”  Revelation 22:7-21
