Mid-Week Challenge

PETA is the latest group to join in on the antibully campaign movement.  In what they are calling examples of “microaggressions,” common offensive idioms like “kill two birds with one stone” are now to be replaced with “feed two birds with one scone.”  Another, replace “Beat a dead horse” with “Feed a fed horse.”  PETA was so kind as to include an anti-animal language usage chart for your review in their declaration.  https://twitter.com/peta/status/1070066047414345729

I will be the first to say that there is no place for bullies in any arena, but this is just one more step of madness in worshipping the creation instead of the Creator.  I am a tenderhearted animal lover who still has not outgrown the ribbing I took at the age of 10 when I could not shoot a snapping turtle in my grandfather’s garden, but I’ll be the first to acknowledge the command we are given in Scripture to care for and subdue God’s Creation. Adam’s role was to name the animals and then care for the Garden.  Even after the Fall Adam continued to subdue Creation so that he might live.  Later in Genesis 9:3 God specifically mentions animals in the human food chain when He says, “Everything that lives and moves about will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything.”  In Acts 10Peter is hungry and refused to eat what has been taught as unholy meat. He has a vision from the Lord three times giving him permission to eat the meat laid before him.  When speaking of spiritual food, Paul mentions the desire for adults to be fed “meat” instead of living off of milk used for the immature.

Even though we have been given the okay and encouraged to eat an adult diet there is an overarching responsibility of humans to be caretakers of that which we do not own.  We must remember that all of Creation still belongs to God but He has gifted the care of it to us.  We take this care too far when we become the servants of the Creation.  When we put nature before human kind we venture into the arena of disobedience and sin.

My heart is in sync with those who have a spirit of protection for any living thing.  I think that is in line with the attributes of our Creator, however, worship begins and ends with Him.  He has given people a direct fellowship with Him through Jesus Christ, that is a honor the animals will never know.  Today, thank the Lord for this relationship that He has made possible.  Also, be mindful of your role in stewardship of the Creation.  In the end we will give an account of all aspects of our life, and personal use of His resources will be one of the things at the top of the list.

The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it;  Psalm 24:1

Serving the Savior,

Bro. Jonathan
