Mid-Week Challenge

Looking out the windshield of my car this morning and seeing the sun shining, blue sky and feeling the warmth of a new day was refreshing.  Coming out of more than two weeks of heavy rain and flooding in our area, being able to see the beauty of Creation made me pause and give glory to God for His artistry.  There are few things more eye appealing than a big blue sky, especially after so many days of grey.  I’m reminded of what Paul says in Romans 1:19-21, “For what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood from His workmanship, so that men are without excuse. For although they knew God, they neither glorified Him as God nor gave thanks to Him, but they became futile in their thinking and darkened in their foolish hearts.…”

Paul’s words to us are a reminder of how God reveals His presence through the order of Creation. Even in Paul’s day there were those who refused to acknowledge the existence of God.  Paul’s point is that it should be easy to recognize the order of Creation and at minimum suggest someone or something behind it.  How do you explain the beauty in nature if not for an Artist?  Atheists have refused to accept this line of reasoning but cannot come up with their own explanation of our origin.  Survival of the Fittest, Natural Selection and Evolution have been the only things that come close. The holes in these theories have caused a few atheist to at least be honest and in turn open the door to a possible bridge to witness to them.

A story by Ferris Jabr for the New York titled “Times How Beauty Is Making Scientists Rethink Evolution”cites Yale ornithologist Richard Prum, making the point in his book, “The Evolution of Beauty,” “the elaborate plumage and outrageous mating displays of many birds confer no obvious survival advantage. Instead, they often put these birds at a disadvantage, wasting precious energy and making them stand out to predators.”

Mr. Jabr’s point is that there appears to be beauty in nature for beauty’s sake.  All previous arguments can’t explain this and in fact would contradict these theories as beauty being a flaw.

There is much more to explore in making this connection but it is proof as to how some scientists are beginning to take an honest approach to previous theories presented and taught as fact.

It is wonderful how God’s Word gives us the direction we need for everyday life.  Even when some of our world’s most recognized minds refuse to receive it, they still can’t deny what they see with their own eyes.  Today, give God glory for being the Artist of all you see around you.  Thank Him for demonstrating His power and love through all of Creation.  Say a prayer for those who are beginning to open their minds to the great truths found in the Bible.  God has blessed us through discoveries in science but none greater than His personal revelation to us.

On the glorious splendor of your majesty, and on your wondrous works, I will meditate. Psalm 145:5
