Mid-Week Challenge

I love to read positive stories.  Especially if it about Christians that are thinking outside the box in sharing their faith.  If you have ever prayed that God would give you a sign as to what you need do, CBN News ran a story a few weeks ago about a community in Richland County, South Carolina that might make that request come true.  Vanessa Frazier, founder/director of Christ Teens, a Columbia non-profit outreach to young students and teachers, partnered with South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) to produce “School Prayer Zone” signs on private church properties located near schools and outside the highway rights of way.  The signs look official and depict stick figures of a man and woman praying with a Scripture notation for Second Chronicles 7:14 below.  Frazier says the effort is to get people to pray for students and teachers and "create a wall of prayer around the schools."  Because the signs are on private property they escape the separation of “Church and State” issues some might try to bring up.

What a great idea to get people to think more about talking to the Lord and to think about others who might be in need.  With all the stresses that young people are under today and given the continued desire of some to remove all things Christian from the schools, this is a creative way to put the attention on what God wants to do through His people in the community.  Better than a flashing “school zone” sign, these reminders allow people to pause in their cars to ask the Lord’s blessing on whatever might be happening inside that specific zone of interest.

We all ask for a sign from time to time and here is a great example of what the Lord has already called all of us to do, pray!  Look for ways new ways today that you might encourage others to think about those who are around them.  It’s easy to get lost in the cares of this world but this is just one way to break that cycle and get refocused on ways to really make a difference.

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord's people. Ephesians 6:18
