Mid-Week Challenge

How you access the Bible has changed a lot in the past few years.  At one time in my life I thought it was amazing to have the Bible read onto cassette tape.  Then there were Bible CDs, MP3 and finally a video Bible.  Access to God’s Word has changed with the culture.  Younger people started the trend of reading the Bible on their phone or iPad.  I remember church members assuring me they were not texting during my sermons, simply taking notes as they read the Bible on their electronic device.  No matter if you are a die hard, old school, leather bound King James print version or you prefer The Message version on an Android tablet, everyone must agree that getting the Bible to people who have not heard about Jesus is a great thing, no matter how it arrives.  The creators of the YouVersion App see that as their mission.  They recently published their 2017 Year in Review and report some pretty exciting things.

Almost 300 million people have downloaded the app which allows someone to read the Bible in their own language, begin a Bible study, receive daily devotionals and search the Scriptures. The Bible App offers Bible text in 1,635 versions, representing 1,171 languages! The verse they report that was most often searched for or shared in 2017 was Joshua 1:9 -This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

What does that tell us?  With modern technology it is easy to send an encouraging word by text and it is amazing that so many use Scripture as that encouraging word.  In times of trouble or fear people are still going to God’s Word for comfort and direction.  It also tells us that God has given us one more way to get into the Bible.  As I was looking at all the countries represented who are served by the App it reminded me of how blessed we in America are to have free access to this life changing book.  My prayer is that more people will become aware of how easy it is to share the message of Christ with someone else by using technology!

“Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.”  Mark 16:5
